October generates a lot of emotion for breast cancer patients and for survivors. I have been listening to many different people’s stories, both past and present and one of the most consistent pieces of advice that keeps coming around is being strong. When you have breast cancer, hearing someone say “be strong” doesn’t really get you anywhere it seems, but saying the best way to be strong is to have your “moment” when you need to but then get back up, take a deep breath and put those big girl panties back on and take more forward steps!! Everybody’s story is different. Everyone processes in their own time. Healing is individual.
15 years ago I was in the midst of fighting my own battle with breast cancer, and like everyone else, mine took several turns I wasn’t expecting. October is emotional……not so much for myself anymore but for the new girls that are just getting started, for the ones who continue to struggle. Breast Cancer is so much more then just a disease that needs to be cured, it messes with every aspect of your life……your relationships, your emotional and physical well being and the list goes on. It takes time……alot of time. You may be done with your treatment, but it isn’t gone, it takes time for your heart to catch up with your brain….ok physically, not so much on the other fronts. Don’t let it consume you but take time for yourself and be good to you..
